It is estimated that almost half of all Australians are affected by mental health issues directly or indirectly. The Mental Health Week initiative started in 1985 to promote mental wellbeing, furthering knowledge about mental health and eliminating the stigma surrounding mental illness. This year the theme of Mental Health week is Act-Belong-Commit.

The 2014 ABC Mental as Anything initiative, programming on the topic of Mental Health to various television, radio and on-line platforms attracted an audience of 5.9 million people over a week of programming and raised $1.5 million for mental health research.

This year the ABC will again be devoting the week to highlighting mental health and illness with television, radio and on-line programming.
