The Movember Foundation is a global Men's Health Movement, which aims to change the status of men's health, by changing current patterns of thinking and behaviour. The Foundation uses a moustache, bringing a change and opportunity to talk about health and to take action.

The average life expectancy for Australian men is almost 5 years less than women. Some estimate that 4 men die every hour from potentially preventable conditions in Australia.

The reasons for these statistics are complex and multiple, but include

  • Men are less likely to seek help about health concerns and use health services
  • Current stigmas surrounding mental health
  • Men engage in risky activities
  • Men are reluctant to take action when they do not feel mentally or physically well
  • Men do not openly discuss their feelings and health
  • Lack of awareness and understanding about men's health issues

The Rules for Movember are;

  1. Once registered at, each MoBro must begin the 1st of Movember with a clean shaven face
  2. For the entire month of Movember each MoBro must grow and groom a moustache
  3. Don't fake it, No goatees, No beards, No fake moustaches
  4. Use the power of the moustache to create conversations about men's health and to raise funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health
  5. Each MoBro must conduct himself like a true gentleman
